Classic films you need to watch

Nicole Dellolio – Opinions Editor

Being a college student can be tricky because you have to limit yourself on what to spend your money on because it is limited, or at least that’s how it is for me anyways. With things such as movie tickets being so expensive nowadays, you really have to pick and choose which movies you really want to watch, but lately it seems like there have been no good movies out.  This has lead me to watch older movies instead that have a lot of sequels.

  1. Rambo: Sylvester Stallone stars as John Rambo in an action filled series consisting of four films.  The four movie titles are “First Blood” (1982), “First Blood Part II” (1985), “Rambo III” (1988), and “Rambo”(2008). Rambo, a troubled Vietnam War veteran, tries to adjust to civilian life but in every film he ends up involved in a war of his own.  The first movie starts out a little bit slow, but it speeds up quickly and the action never dies back down.  I’ve never been that big of a fan of Sylvester Stallone but these movies changed my perception of him.

  2. Die Hard:  Bruce Willis stars in a movie series consisting of five films: “Die Hard,” “Die Hard 2,” “Die Hard With a Vengeance,” “Live Free or Die Hard,” and “A Good Day to Die Hard.”  The first movie made was released in 1988 and the last one was released in 2013.  As the movies go on you can see how the special effects get better as time goes on and the violence increases.  If you’re looking for a movie with the mixture of action and witty banter then this series is the right one to watch.

  3. Fast and the Furious: This series consists of six movies, with one more currently being made that is going to be released in 2014.  Even though I’m a huge Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson fan, that’s not the only reason that I like these movies.  Most people will say that these movies are just about cars and hot women, but there’s also a good storyline and they are action-packed.  I’ve also heard that this movie is just for the men to watch, but that’s not true at all.

  4. Harry Potter: Pretty much everybody in the country has already seen all of these movies but that doesn’t mean you can’t re-watch them.  There is so much happening in every single one of these films, that it is hard to remember all of it the first time watching them.  It’s even rumored that the author J.K. Rowling is planning on writing an encyclopedia to go along with the series to help explain all of the terminology used.

  5. Pirates of the Caribbean:  Johnny Depp stars as Captain Jack Sparrow; do I have to say more?  Ever since this series came out in 2003, I have been obsessed with watching all four of the films.  There has also been rumors circulating that there is going to be a fifth installation of the series called “Dead Men Tell No Tales” that is going to follow the adventures of Jack Sparrow.

  6. Transformers: Shia LeBeouf stars in a series of three films about extraterrestrial clans that are threatening to destroy the earth.  These aliens hide as everyday appliances such as cars that transform into huge fighting machines.  One group of them the Autobots defend earth, while the Decepticons try to destroy it.  Megan Fox also stars in the first two of the movies as LeBeouf’s sidekick and girlfriend.
