Owls on the Street: Fitness and ways Southern can improve Eric Clinton on open rec hours: “I feel like they should definitely make them earlier in the day as well as late at night. Especially for commuters because they are such a big part of our community and to single them out would be wrong,.” Nicole Pruchnik on what Southern should have: “I would like to see more advertised hours for the facilities that could be used for exercise like the fieldhouse and the pool because most people aren’t aware of those options on campus.” Coscia Coscia on working out in the Fitness Center: “It’s different because I don’t live here so it’s like I don’t always want to work out and then not be able to shower and go back to class, but I feel like for kids who live here it’s really convenient because it’s right in the student center and they have it here and if I lived here I would definitely use it.” Alexis Duncan on exercising regularly: “I bike to get to school, to get to downtown New Haven, to get groceries, to go to the bank, anything within city limits, I can bike to. I do it for the health benefits just as stress relief and to get to places in general.” Joanna Kisiel on exercising regularly: “I don’t have a workout routine, but at my job, I swim and I teach kids how to swim, so I guess I work out. I work at Healthtrax which is a gym in North Haven. It’s all year-round and I teach kids from nine months to however old you want to be.” Devonte Adams on intramural sports: “It something to do, a lot people sit around their rooms not doing anything and this is a great outlet to being fit and meeting a lot of new people, I met a lot of new people just playing and also refereeing.” Jason Riddle on working out: “I either run for a bit then lift, or lift and then run—that’s all you really need.” Jennie Ellis on working out regularly: “I work out every Friday I actually go to free yoga Fridays over at the student center with Denise Zack, so that’s a definite. And then I’ll do yoga in between like Mondays and Wednesdays just on my own and I hula hoop a lot so, and it’s actually really good exercise.” Chelsea Letkiewicz on working out: “I don’t exercise on campus because it is too expensive, they don’t have a lot of machines, and the rules are strict.” Jerry Lafortune on what Southern could add: “Bigger campus events to get more non-athletes involved.” Skyler Edmondson on what Southern should have: “I’d like to see punching bags and kettle bells added to the recreation center.” Chris Hazelton on intramural sports: “It does gives students the opportunity who maybe don’t want to pay for the gym or don’t want pay to go the YMCA or a local rec league but they want to be active and they want to play sports.” Louis Francois on what Southern should add: “We need more free gym access because the current times are inconvenient.” Rachel de la Torre on what Southern should have: “I would like to see a better weight training facility and a more high tech fitness center on campus.” Okary Sweetland on open rec hours: “Sometimes it is difficult but you have to understand that this is strictly for the athletes so even these hours are a blessing so I can’t complain.” Michael Cerra on what Southern should have: “I’d like to see Olympic weights and dead floors added.” Jennifer Rochefort on what Southern should have: “I would like to see a more useable pool for rec hours because I really like swimming and it takes stress off my joints.” Kyjell Tyson on playing intramural sports: “It’s a good way to get you out of your dorm and helps you to relieve stress and just to get a good workout.” Luke Sacramone on exercising regularly: “I like to run in my neighborhood every day, so I do that every morning after I eat breakfast. I don’t go to a gym, but I work out in my basement with my father sometimes. I’m also on a men’s hockey team.” Carlo Roch on why fitness is important to a college student: “Working out is a good way to relieve stress and a good way to stay focused in school.” Rebecca Evensen on working out regularly: “I’m on the track team, so yes, six day a week.” Evensen is a member at the Fitness Center, however she doesn’t use it. Instead she uses the field house weight room with her team. Angelica Valociouz on the food options: “The vegetables here are nasty—there’s just like a layer of grease on them.” Christen Dominick on what Southern should have: “I feel like more fitness classes would be a good, and more machines to work out on.” Rotem Zinn Porat on what Southern should have: “I don’t really exercise besides doing a sport but if there were more spin classes I would be more likely to exercise.” Sheldon Henry on intramural sports: “It gives full time students the opportunity to come out and play whatever sport they are interested in. This is their chance to come out and release from their classwork and do have fun doing what they like to do.” Post Views: 78 Share This Facebook X Whatsapp Reddit Email Tags eating healthyexercisefitfitnessfitness centerhealthy lifestyleopinionperson on the streetrecreationworkout Related Posts New Year’s leads to increase in Fitness Center membership 02/12/2020 Fitness Center offers students racial healing through yoga 11/22/2019 Grades over fitness 02/06/2019 Southern News Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
