Alex Palmieri – General Assignment Reporter

“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” was released March 25. For a movie that took roughly 14 years to release, there were plenty of laughable scenes to entertain its viewers.

Jahvon Soto, freshman and history major, said he has waited years for the movie to come out. He said he saw the first movie when he was a young kid and when “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” finally released, he said he was laughing nonstop.

“Every scene was pretty funny to tell the truth,” said Soto. “I thought it was very entertaining.”

For those who don’t know, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” combines parenting and marriage in a comic matter. Toula Portokalos’s daughter, Paris, is rebellious in the sense that she clashes with Greek traditions. Toula and her husband Ian are having marital issues within this timespan. A wicked turn of events is then released when Toula’s parents find out they were never officially married. With this situation occurring, their wedding is finally in the works. The amusing movie had plenty of students at southern attracted.

Soto said he had always liked the concept of the movie so he had to see this one. Though it has taken years for it to release, Soto said it was worth the wait.

“I always liked the first one,” said Soto. “I saw it a bunch of times as a kid. I had to see this one; it met all of my expectations.”

In the movie, Maria and her husband are never actually married because their marriage certificate was never signed by a priest. With this situation being one of the main storylines, Soto said it was a unique plot.

“I thought the story was exceptionally funny,” said Soto. “I would see it again in a heartbeat.”

Brittany Bruttomesso, junior English major, said it was one of the funniest movies that she has seen in a long time. Though Bruttomesso said the first film may have been a little better than the second, she said “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” is still very entertaining for all comedy lovers. She added that all of the characters did an exceptional job with the role that they played as well.

“I loved Toula Portokalos and her daughter Paris,” said Bruttomesso. “They played the best characters in the film and it kept me very entertained.”

Bruttomesso said though it has been years for this movie to come out, she is happy it did because the story plot was good and there were jokes and laughable moments throughout a lot of the movie.

“I don’t really care that it took that long to come out,” said Bruttomesso. “It was worth it in the end because it was a really good movie. The family reminds me of my family because they’re silly.”

Bobby Augur, sophomore sports management major, said the film was one of the best that he has seen in awhile. He said that it was funny since scenes in the film related to his family, and how they act on a daily basis. He added the characters of the movie played their roles well.

“I thought the whole story was pretty funny,” said Augur. “The fact that the parents never got married and their certificate wasn’t signed made the movie much more entertaining.”
