Lauren Conrad, who is now Lauren Tell, also known as LC, is a former reality show star. What do you think of when you hear that name? Well, she starred on MTV’s ‘Laguna Beach’, and ‘The Hills.’
She also has not one, but two successful clothing lines. (The Kohl’s brand LC by Lauren Conrad, and the higher end Paper Crown) She has a killer website and blog, Instagram, just planned a Pinterest-perfect wedding, and has a cult following of many people. Can Lauren do anything else?
Well, believe it or not, she can. Conrad can also add best selling author to her list. She’s written the best-selling novel, ‘L.A. Candy’ which is the first in the ‘L.A. Candy’ trilogy, as well as the spin off series ‘The Fame Game,’ and the novels ‘Lauren Conrad Style’, and ‘Lauren Conrad Beauty.’
‘L.A. Candy’ is about two best friends, Jane and Scarlett. Jane and Scarlett have just moved to L.A in search of a new life. Jane is looking forward to living life to the fullest, in the town of dreams. Whether it’s designer clothes, and living the sweet life, Jane cannot wait to adapt to the relaxed, luxurious lifestyle of L.A. She landed an awesome internship, while Scarlett goes to college nearby. However, it’s not all work, because the duo plans to play just as hard as they work.
A producer for an up and coming reality show that is rumored to be the ‘reality version of Sex and the City’ approached the pair. Jane agrees in a heartbeat, while Scarlett is reluctant. However, they both sign up.
Jane quickly adapts to the perks of being reality’s biggest television star. Free designer clothes, and the VIP treatment are just a few of the small benefits of being famous. However, all that glitters is not golden. Some of the new crowd that Jane comes in contact with is down for a good time and a wild night of fun. However, they also crave a piece of the limelight that comes with being seen with Jane. Is this what Jane had signed up for?
Lauren Conrad is one of the many celebrities who both starred in reality television and wrote a novel that makes it to the best-selling list. Snooki, J-Woww and Karen Gravano have both penned out novels. Unlike her peers however, Conrad presents an irresistible read that you just can’t put down.
Once you’re done with ‘L.A Candy’, you’re going to want to grab a bite of its sequel ‘Sweet Little Lies.’ It is a fast read, and honestly it’s something that is worth getting at Barnes and Noble. I’ve read it at least three times since it came out, and I guarantee that you will too.
Conrad has always talked openly about her experiences with ‘The Hills.’ The reality show has been speculated to be staged, in addition to forcing Conrad to be in situations that were both uncomfortable and unnecessarily. In her novel, you can see that. ‘L.A. Candy’ is a first hand account of someone who’s experienced the reality show scene.
You can tell that the author is experienced in the area that she is writing about, and that makes it that much more enjoyable to read. While reading it, I often wondered if this was something that the author experienced herself first-hand with her experience on both reality shows.
I’m a huge fan of Conrad, whether it’s her clothing line, her reality shows, or her picture perfect Instagram. Therefore, I may be a tad bit biased in saying that this book is a total must read, even if you haven’t seen ‘Laguna Beach’ or ‘The Hills.’ I guarantee that once you take a bite of her sweet books, you will be addicted.
