Junior forward Daquan King scored two second half goals for the Southern Connecticut State University men’s soccer team as the Owls defeated the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights 2-1.
The Owls bounced back following their first loss of the season to improve their record to 10-1 on the year. Southern dominated the match, outshooting Bridgeport 23-8.
King broke a scoreless tie in the 61st minute on a penalty kick pass Purple Knight goalkeeper Agustin Prados. Two minutes later, King found the back of the net again for his sixth goal of the season.
Daniel Augenstein scored in the 80th minute to bring Bridgeport within a goal, but that is as far as the Purple Knights would get. After allowing four goals in the previous match, freshman goalkeeper Noah Varonier had three saves in the win.
The loss drops the Purple Knights to 4-6 on the season.
