When I was in high school I wasn’t involved on campus at all. I had a picture in my mind of the one places I wanted to get involved but other than that I figured I wouldn’t be overly involved in clubs and organizations on campus because that’s not who I was in high school.
But at my college orientation, my Orientation Ambassadors kept repeating one thing, “College is what you make it,” and by the time I went home, I knew one thing was going to suffice for what I wanted in college.
Most students at SCSU know there are tons of places to get involved. All you have to do is go to club fair or even just walk around the second floor of the Adanti Student Center where many of the clubs and organizations have bulletin board with tons of information. You may just be surprised by what you might find to get involved.
It’s not only club and organization that make college worth going to but parties, trips and other things worth remembering when you are no longer in your golden years anymore. Residence Hall Association and Programs Council on campus both offer trips throughout the semester. So, why not gather your closest friends and have a weekend to remember.
New Haven is in a good location as well because New York City is just a two hour train ride away. As college students we do have some responsibilities and quite a lot of freedom. But Southern offers so many interesting classes, so when you have an elective credit why not take a class you normally would never think to take and grow as a person.
One of the most underused opportunities that Southern has is all the services they offer such as career counseling. I think most people have those moments when they feel so lost because they have no idea where they are going with their lives. Well when feel like that they’re people you can talk to who are trained to help students think about what they want to do in the Career Center.
Southern is just a bus ride away from downtown New Haven where you can go to a nightclub and dance or go to Toad’s Place to see a concert. We all know classes are stressful but having a night out with your friends is just the cure.
Whether you are looking to find a place on campus to get super involve or make new friend, try and find a future or party with friends, college is place to find yourself and become the person you are going to become. But the only way that any of that will happen is if you put in the effort to become that person and have those experience is if you reach out of your comfort zone and do something about. You have two choices on how to experience college you can be bored and miserable because you aren’t at your dream school or you can have the time of your life because you made it your dream school. As long as you remember, college is what you make it.
[…] But nevertheless I decided to take that chance because at the end of the day, college is what YOU make of it because the quality of an education is mostly based on the hard work and effort the student puts in […]
