The biggest new story in celebrity news this past week without doubt was Justin Bieber’s arrest for a DUI, resisting arrest, and drag racing. When it happened, E! News devoted at least a half hour in its full hour broadcast to it. What went wrong with Justin? The people who call themselves “Beliebers” exploded all over Twitter, writing ‘Save Justin.’
With this pandemonium going on with this, we have to wonder why has everyone become so obsessed with the actions of celebs? Why is the doing of celebrities become front page news? And most importantly, we have to wonder why we even care enough to be so involved with them.
Justin Bieber has been the heart throb of teenage girls since 2010 with the release of his hit single ‘Baby’. Over the past few years, the former Canadian has climbed his way to the top of the charts. He has become the interest of every girl, and a common focal point of the paparazzi. We watched his every move, as he bought his first car, and fell in love with Selena Gomez. Soon, he became known for more than being able to sing in a higher pitched voice.
It’s safe to say that the fate of Justin’s isn’t unlike the child stars that were before him. Lindsay Lohan’s mugshot was plastered everywhere, as was Paris Hilton, and countless others before him. Child stars are like everyone else; they make mistakes. They make mistakes, they go through phases, and most importantly they change. The only difference is that they have to do it with a microscope watching every move. Everyone has an opinion on what they say, which causes them to develop a thicker skin. However, when everyone has an opinion on what you say, wear, and do it can get to you to the point where it drives you completely crazy.
The thing that we have to ask ourselves is what happened to Justin to make him like this? Justin obviously let fame go to his head. Some celebrities have the issue of thinking that they own the world when in reality they are human like everyone else is. However, when they screw up, having several number one singles or a hit movie at the box office isn’t going to help you out.
We do have to keep in mind that celebrities are like us, only their names are more household known. With that being said, they are human and they do in fact make mistakes. Justin is no exception to that rule. We often are too quick to judge celebs for their actions and wrong doings, and expect them to fit the mold of perfect songbirds. What we don’t realize is that they are just doing a job. They are getting paid for the hit singles, and they are getting paid for the roles that they play. We often think that they have to be stuck into that certain mold forever. Look at Miley Cyrus for example. She’s clearly shed that Hannah Montana image.
We don’t have the exact answers of what happened with Justin Bieber, just because we don’t know him. We don’t know what the driving forces of the actions were. All we know is that he got arrested, and that’s it. He’ll probably get some sort of help, and perhaps the best lawyer in town to wipe it clean from his record, as most celebrities do. But the thing that we must remind ourselves is that he’s, like all of the other celebrities out there, are human and humans make mistakes.
