Gifts that will earn you the title of ‘Master Gift Giver’

Josh FalconeGeneral Assignment Reporter

With the holidays fast upon us it’s time to start thinking about what to get for the people on your list. The following is a short selection of my recommendations for the perfect gift.

Have an adventurous type on your list? You cannot go wrong with a GoPro. It is on the top of many gift lists and it should be; it is a sweet gift. If you are looking to gift this, go for the HERO3+ Silver edition. It has a long battery life, great image processing, and is as light as a feather.

Another solid gift that is sure to gain you the title of greatest gift giver is a sweet pair of headphones. The Bose Quietcomfort 15 Noise Cancelling headphones are a great choice. They reduce noise across numerous frequencies and are a great gift to a frequent flier or bus rider. If you want to spoil someone and create a memorable holiday, present him or her with the Google Nexus 7 tablet. This Android 4.3 powered tablet includes 2GB of RAM and a very long battery life. Sticking with the tablets, if you want to go even bigger (and you do, they don’t say go big or go home for nothing) give someone on your list the iPad mini. With the introduction of the Air, the mini can be had for a cheaper price and it is worth it. The retina display is sharp and tiny, but in a good way. Need a gift for the reader on your list and you like them a lot? Why not gift them the Kindle Paperwhite? The 3G version will give your new bookworm bestie free 3G wireless and no monthly fee nor an annual contract. The Paperwhite also allows its user to read glare-free in direct sunlight.

If you had your heart set on giving the bookworm in your life an actual physical book for the holidays, then Brandon Stanton’s “Humans of New York” is a great gift choice. The book is an offshoot of Stanton’s popular Tumblr website which showcases moving photos and short interviews with people from New York City.

Up next is the Jawbone Up bracelet, an activity tracker that is advertised not a fitness tracker, but an aid to a better, healthier lifestyle. It does this by analyzing your sleeping and eating habits and how they affect you. They also come in a wide range of stylish colors.

If you are looking for something for a child or just someone who is a child at heart and enjoyed the film “Despicable Me 2” there is the Minion Dave Talking Action Figure. This toy features the original voice of Dave from the films and includes 55 different minion sayings and sound effects.

This next idea is right in my wheelhouse, the ENO DoubleNest Hammock. This hammock is extremely light and a breeze to install and easy to bring along anywhere. Who doesn’t love swaying in a hammock?

Maybe you need to buy for someone who watched every episode of “Breaking Bad” or maybe you need to get something for a TV nut that just has never had a chance to watch the modern masterpiece. Well the “Breaking Bad” complete set is an awesome gift for either. The set is stored in a collective money barrel and includes hours upon hours of special features, an exclusive alternate ending and a Los Pollos Hermanos apron. It’s awesome.

If you’re looking for something for the sports nut on your list, the “NFL Super Bowl Collection I-XLVI” is perfect. This set includes every amazing play, performance and moments from the first Super Bowl in January 1967 up until the Giants victory in Super Bowl XLVI.

Cards Against Humanity is a solid gift for those on your list. The game is pretty straight forward, every round one player asks a question from the Black Card and then everyone else answers with what they feel is their funniest White Card. This party game will make things weird between friends quick.

All of these gifts would make great gifts, and nobody said you couldn’t ask for some of these sweet gifts yourself.
