The biggest names in music, an extravagant runway and of course, the angel wings. This can only mean one thing; it’s time for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2013. The musical performances this year included Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, A Great Big World, and Neon Jungle.
Girls all over the world look forward to seeing the new PINK collection and watching the tradition that’s been around since 1995; and the boys probably don’t mind either. But in all seriousness, they go behind the scenes of the fashion show and really get to know the models. Instead of just parading around on the runway, they give them a personality and show different elements of their life, including their childhoods.
By showing us the real side of the models, it only enhances the fact that these women are role models for young girls. Most of them are very normal women who participate in philanthropic projects, came from very relatable backgrounds and lead a pretty normal life…aside from being a Victoria’s Secret model.
Victoria’s Secret also takes pride in their signature makeup look for their models: bronzed and beautiful, but not too much. Year after year, the models wear very natural makeup that enhances their natural beauty. Meaning they’ll wear natural shades in eye shadow, a nude or pink lip, contouring, bronzing the skin, and adding a little blush. It probably takes just as long to do an exaggerated look as well, but Victoria’s Secret is always applauded for not caking on the makeup. In addition to the natural makeup, the models always have effortless, loose waves in their hair, which makes the look overall look give a “girl next door” vibe.
The tradition every year for this fashion show is to have one extremely expensive bra be the center of attention, and this year it’s worth $10 million. It’s called the Royal Fantasy Bra made of up “4,200 rubies, blue and yellow sapphires and diamonds handset in 18-karat gold,” as said on Victoria’s Secret’s website. “Its crowning glory is the bra’s 52-karat pear-shaped ruby drop centerpiece.” The lucky model Candice Swanepoel was chosen to wear this during the fashion show this past Tuesday.
Some other majorly famous models seen in the fashion show included Adriana Lima, a 13-year show veteran, Karlie Kloss, Lindsay Ellingson, Lily Aldridge, Doutzen Kroes, and Alessandra Ambrosio. There were also many nostalgic clips featured from the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012 and the models were seen lip-syncing to popular Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber hits, “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “Beauty and the Beat.”
There’s also been some drama surrounding this particular show. Taylor Swift was a performer at the show, posed for pictures with the models and rocked the stage. According to Josh Duboff at Vanity Fair Magazine, Swift “blended in seamlessly,” with the Victoria’s Secret models. One of the models, Jessica Hart, was asked in an interview is Swift could pull off being a VS model like her, to which she replied, “No.” Hart has since apologized, but caused quite a stir with Swift. Maybe Swift will get song inspiration from this and take a break from writing about guys and relationships.
On the Victoria’s Secret website, you can see all the behind the scenes footage, including workout tips, makeup and hair ideas, and prizes for some lucky Victoria’s Secret shoppers. During the fashion show, and also on the website, you can see some clips of the creative process and what goes into creating a Victoria’s Secret collection.
Every year, us girls look forward to this classic event and the 2013 show did not disappoint!
