Dunkin’ at the university picked up their belongings and stakes a new location in the Adanti Student Center.
Beginning at the start of the fall semester, Dunkin’ made its new home closer to its fellow Student Center vendors: SubConnection, Tres Habaneros, and The Grill. Being at the forefront of Stu for years, Dunkin’s location now resides farther into the building than its previous spot.
“Dunkin is kind of like a pick me up that you want before your class or after your class,” Kaylin Ward, a graduate, said.
Compared to the other food options around campus, Dunkin’ provides quick and easy service that makes it simpler for students to treat themselves throughout the day.
Quick, easy and convenient – Dunkin’ has been the ideal place for students to get food.
Being further away from the many exits of the building, Dunkin’s employees get much less of a breeze than they have been used to in the past.
However, space and convenience were not the main reasons for Dunkin’ making its migration.
“There were these big two ovens stacked on top of each other,” special-elementary education collaborative major Lily Waterman, a senior and former employee at the Dunkin’ said, “right in front of the fire alarm. And so, it would smoke all the time, so it wasn’t OSHA approved.”
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is a U.S. Department of Labor agency that oversees well-being in a workplace by enforcing safety and health guidelines.
Having two ovens near a smoke alarm went against their regulations by the buildup of heat that would be caused.
With this issue solved, the new location follows OSHA’s guidelines much more clearly than its predecessor.
Another problem that the new location may help resolve is the long line of students waiting to make their order.
This was a common issue complained about at the previous location.
“They would stand in the middle of the whole area, so people couldn’t get through,” Waterman said. “I would have to corral people like a shepherd.”
The lines at the old Dunkin’ were known to get quite long at their worst, going as far as stretching to the outside of the Student Center.
With the new location in play, this should not be an issue due to having more space for students to wait.
With a new spot to serve the university community, Dunkin’s new location feels more familiar and comfortable with a brighter future ahead.
