Ultimate New England fall bucket list with all the basics

Jessica Pellegrino General Assignment Reporter

Let’s face it. Fall is the ultimate season. Sweater weather, apple picking, and beautiful foliage. I’ll take an extra-large, pumpkin-spiced pile of all of it.

Fall activities are bountiful and endless. It is the perfect season for exploring, indulging, and having fun. And let’s be real, New England in the best place to be when the leaves start to change. So get outside and enjoy the season.

But first, without further ado, here is the ultimate, all-inclusive bucket list of everything you NEED to do this fall.

“The Basics”

1.) Apple Picking– This is a must. My favorite apple picking activity is to try to eat a whole apple while it’s still attached to the tree! Bonus: once you are done picking, you get to visit the farm store with apple cider and apple donuts and apple everything. So pick away and then come home and bake the world’s best apple pie.

2.) Study Outside– Not too hot; not too cold. Fall is the ideal season for studying outside. Southern has tons of outside seating. Or, you can show your true Fall expertise and construct a chair solely out of fallen leaves. Whatever you do, do it outside.

3.) Carve a pumpkin– Or if you are me, draw a very convincing face on a pumpkin with a black sharpie marker. Double points if you picked the pumpkin out of a pumpkin patch.

4.) Get your drink on– Whether it’s a caramel apple pie macchiato or a pumpkin spiced mochalattѐ, it better be offensively sweet. Drink up and ignore the fact that you are probably drinking a week’s worth of your sugar allotment.

5.) Try a pumpkin donut from Orangeside on Temple– Pumpkin. Donuts. Does this need any more explanation? Okay, maybe it does. Orange has a full donut menu, including seasonal items like pumpkin donuts. Orangeside also has delicious brunch menu items for people who like things a little more savory.

6.) Explore– Grab a friend and go explore downtown. Yale is beautiful in the Fall! Between the boutiques and bakeries, it is hard not to get in a Fall state of mind after an afternoon hanging downtown with your friends.

7.) Get Haunted– New Haven is known for it’s ghostly happenings! Go on a Ghost Tour of Downtown New Haven. Test your luck on one of the tours and try not to get too spooked out!

8.) Get Lost– Are you the next Maze Runner? Try your luck at the Lyman Orchards corn maze. Double points if you can find your way out without any assistance. But be warned, it is not as easy as you might think.

9.) Shop ‘til you drop– Update your fall wardrobe by going shopping at the fall sales happening now at Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets.

10.) Go Owls– Attend a SCSU football game. Show the boy of Fall your support during a home game. Bonus: Sometimes Southern throws tailgates with free food.

11.) Cook– Make you and your roommates (or friends) a Fall themed dinner. Don’t forget the pumpkin pie for dessert.

12.) Take it all in– Lastly, get in a car and drive. Drive to an area with tons of trees and just admire it. New England really is the beautiful place you want to be during fall.

Well, there is your bucket list. Now get to work! Everybody knows Fall is the shortest season of the year. Winter is coming!
