Kansas City Royals make a come-back

Aaron Johnson Sports Editor

To some people, 1985 doesn’t seem like that long ago. But the reality is it’s been 29 years. For fans of the Kansas City Royals, it has been almost an eternity since the team has been good enough to make it to the postseason. This year has been different, these aren’t the normal Royals. The team that has been stuck in the cellar of the American League for almost two decades is long gone and has been replaced by these Royals that would make Bret Saberhagen and George Brett proud.

These new Royals have already been able to not only capture the heart of a city, but the hearts of every baseball fan. Similar in a way that the Pittsburgh Pirates did one season ago, the Royals have been able to infuse the city of Kansas City with a spirit that has not been seen in decades.

Behind the likes of Eric Hosmer, James Shields, and Eric Gordon the Royals have been able to take this season and turn it into one for the ages.

“Big Game” James Shields has been the catalyst on the mound for these Royals, not only giving them a veteran presence with postseason experience, but also being that ace that the team has desperately needed for a number of years.

Are these Royals the real deal? Who knows for sure? But man, are they impressive to watch. Unlike the big market teams that sign huge power hitters, manager Ned Yost has been able to take his team and play small ball. By stealing bases, sacrificing runners over, and using hit and run these Royals have played the game in a way that will make the purest baseball lover shed a tear of joy.

These new Royals play the game the way it was meant to be played.  They also have a flare for the dramatics that attracts the audiences of fans from across the MLB. Who knows how far this team can go? But one thing is for sure. These aren’t your average, run-of-the-mill Royals. These Royals are here and they are ready to play some ball.

Let’s get our collective popcorns ready and enjoy the show that they are going to be putting on, because if there is one thing that they have going for them this season is that they definitely know how to win the big one.
