From Summer Break to School Mode

School is back in session and this means; waking up earlier in the morning, having a strict schedule, having tons of homework and projects to get done, and not as much free time as we would like to have on our hands. Even though with the new semester starting, it can seem overwhelming and too much to handle, there are ways to deal with the stress in order to make our lives a little easier.

The one aspect of college that overwhelms me the most is keeping track of all of the assignments and projects that need to be completed. I love to keep an agenda or planner with me at all times in my classes to write down everything that is due in the future. Keeping a planner handy and making sure all of your class papers are organize eases the stress.

Procrastinating can be a big issue for me throughout the school, especially when I need to get any kind of school work done. What I’ve learned is trying my best to manage my time well. Many of us have both school and work to handle, so planning out a schedule for when homework should get done in-between your classes and work schedule, can ease the burden of rushing to do all your school work at once.

One of the greatest parts of summer break is getting to sleep as late as you want instead of having to wake up early for class. I know sleeping in is the one thing I anticipate the most when summer break rolls around. As much as we don’t want to face having to get up early again, or if your classes aren’t that early in the morning, a little earlier than usual; it needs to be done. For me, getting as much sleep as I can helps me concentrate and focus more at school. We may have those nights where we have tons of school work to get done, but making sleep a priority as well will be beneficial in the long run and can be better for your overall health.

Yes, of course we need to get that homework done on time and make sure we study for all of our tests, but we are allowed to have some time to ourselves. I know that if I constantly overwhelm myself and do school work constantly, I could get even more frustrated. Allow yourself some down time, whether it’s relaxing, watching a movie, or taking a quick nap. If you give yourself time to relax and hang out with friends, it can give you time for a breather and collect yourself before having to get back to that homework assignment due soon.

School is challenging, without a doubt, and we feel as though the semester is never going to end once it starts. The second you enter the classroom after a long summer break, it can be extremely overwhelming since you were used to almost four months of not having any sort of school assignments or priorities. For me, slowly adjusting back to the routine of school takes a few weeks, but once I am organized and set goals for myself, it gets easier and better to handle. Take one step at a time and the semester will go by faster than you realize.
