In the past, the Oscars has been the number one awards show to look your best for. Celebrities obviously look amazing while attending the Grammys, SAG Awards and Golden Globes, but the Oscars is where you pull out all the stops. So far this year, the award shows have shown us a lot of black dresses and simple ensembles, but I predict celebrities will go a bit bolder at the Oscars.
Celebrity stylist Sam Saboura hopes for more color for the 85th Annual Oscars. At previous award shows, white gowns were very popular as well as red and black. Saboura also hopes there are some missteps this year, because it’s simply not as much fun if everyone looks so perfect.
According to US Weekly, jewel-toned dresses were popular amongst certain celebrities last year, such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Shailene Woodley. Even so, there was a trend to mirror the carpet as well; Emma Stone, Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams all chose to go with the traditional—and safe—red gown.
Another trend Shailene Woodley embraced was the super-sized bun. Woodley along with Jennifer Lopez and Tina Fey all modeled big up-dos. Speaking of hair, there were also a few leading ladies who sported bold, dramatic bangs; including Rooney Mara, Ellie Kemper and Rose Byrne.
As for makeup, red lips have always been a bold way to spruce up your look, and celebrities have taken advantage of that in the past. At last year’s Oscars, minimalistic makeup was very popular; less is more! I feel that if you have a clean, polished face and a little bit of eye makeup and lipstick, you’re good to go. Who wants to load up on foundation and eyeliner for an award show anyway?
PopSugar fashion consultant Allison McNamara has gotten down to the nitty gritty and pulled pieces off the runway that she thinks would look stunning on specific celebrities. Based off of past events, she thinks a strapless gold number with a simple silhouette by designer Ellie Saab would fit Anne Hathaway perfectly. McNamara also thinks that Amanda Seyfried will go for another cobalt blue gown such as a recent design by Jason Wu.
After looking at some tweets, I’ve gotten a feel for who the public thinks will be best dressed on the carpet this year, and some are quite surprising. Nina Dobrev, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence and Naomi Watts are among the celebrities in the running for Best Dressed on Sunday night. If you want to see for yourself, search the Oscars hashtag in the Twitter search bar!
So what do I predict for this year? Well, I definitely hope to see some fashion faux pas that will get Joan Rivers on Fashion Police running for the hills, but I do foresee certain celebrities hitting it out of the park. Some of those include Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain; all nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
As for the men, I really hope to see some dashing gentlemen walking the red carpet in Tom Ford or Dolce and Gabbana. Some leading men I’m pulling for are Bradley Cooper, Hugh Jackman and Denzel Washington.
At the 85th Annual Academy Awards, I’m predicting most celebrities are going to be a hit or miss. Perfect is just too boring, am I right? Personally, I think it would cause more excitement if the stars took more risks instead of playing it safe.
I’m really looking forward to some crazy colors and bold statement ensembles.
