After coming off a 69-52 victory over Le Moyne on Dec. 4, the Owls Women’s Basketball team (3-5, 1-4 NE-10) was unable to extend their winning streak after falling to University of New Haven on Saturday 84-64. In the game against Le Moyne, the Owls offense that shot 45.8% from the field, proved to reign superior over the Dolphins who combined shot 26.4% as a team. Senior guard Camille Fantini led the Owls with 17 points, while freshman forward Jackie Beathea put forth a double-double performance with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman guard Katie Stopera contributed to the offense with 10 points of her own.
The Owls defense caused 14 turnovers in the game as Fantini and freshman Nicole Grossbard finished with three steals each. The win gives Southern their first conference victory of the season.
In Saturday’s game versus UNH, the Owls were unable to slow down a Chargers attack led by Bria Moore who finished the game with 27 points, two steals, and four assists. The Owls offense turned the ball over 21 times in the game, while shooting 33.3% from the field. Beathea led Southern with 18 points, while sophomore guard Mariah Hankton added 16 points to the cause.
The Owls to action Dec. 19 at home versus Queens College.
