With under thirty seconds in regulation and her team trailing 68-67, senior guard Camille Fantini set up at the top of the key and caught a pass from freshman Nicole Grossbard. Without hesitation, she drained the three pointer and put her No. 21 ranked Owls up for good.

Owls senior forward/center Moni Smith-Ocran dominated the team’s home opener against Dowling, notching a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, nine of which came on the offensive glass.
Ocran shot 50 percent overall and got to the line five times, a good early sign for the Owls from what looks to be their primary big.
Southern was actually outshot pretty handily, 52 percent to 42 percent, but took 18 more shots than visiting Dowling. Southern went into halftime trailing 38-33, but made up the deficit in the second half, outscoring Dowling by seven, with no points being bigger than Fantini’s game-winning three.
Next up for the Owls is their conference opener this Wednesday at Adelphi before playing a pair of home games. First, on Sunday at 1 p.m. the Owls will play host to Saint Thomas Aquinas College before playing against Assumption, also at home, on Tuesday, Nov. 20th.
