This past Monday, Oct. 3, the Student Government Association hosted a “Meet Your SGA Day.” One of SGA’s main goals for this semester is to connect the representatives-at-Large to the rest of the undergraduate student body.
According to Erin McGuckin, chair of the Board of Student Issues, “We want students to know who the members of the Student Government Association are so they can utilize us.”
This day was spearheaded by the Board of Student Issues and the Board of Public Relations. As Chair of BPR, Andrell Hoyte said, the day brought “two boards that rely a lot on student participation, BSI and BMI [the Board of Membership Involvement] to the forefront.”
The day was designed to give the members of these boards a chance to interact and gather information so that they can ensure that SGA is meeting the needs of Southern students.
Student Government truly relies on undergraduates’ feedback, and unless students feel connected to their Representatives-at-Large, SGA cannot operate as effectively as possible. After all, SGA is “Your Government, Your Voice.”
With that in mind, any student who was unable to talk with a SGA Representative on Monday should feel free to stop by the Student Government office in the Student Center at any time.
Representatives hold regular offices Monday-Friday in ASC Room 222. Plus, students can contact SGA via email at scsu.sga@owls.southernct.edu. And of course, as always, Student Government’s main body meetings are open to all undergraduate students. So come visit us on Fridays at 1 p.m.!
