Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Southern, Selase Williams recently announced he will be leaving to assume the position of Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Lesley University in Cambridge Massachusetts at the end of the fiscal year. Williams, who has been at Southern for six years, said it has been an honor working here.
“I think the faculty, staff, and students can be proud of the advances we have made together over the last half-dozen years,” said Williams in an e-mail to the campus community. “We have dramatically increased the retention and graduation rates for undergraduate students, developed an exemplary First-Year Experience Program, launched new academic programs, created centers of excellence, strengthened our capacity to assess student learning and we are well-prepared for the NEASC visit in October.”
However, Williams said the most important change he has seen is an enhanced sense of community.
President Battle thanked Williams for his accomplishments and congratulated him on the new position.
“Provost Williams’ vision and leadership have been evident in so many areas of our academic life at Southern,” said Battle.
