This week’s NFL roundup

Bobby MartinezSports Reporter

Five games into the NFL season, yes there is a season taking place and not just domestic violence cases piling up.

Two of the top teams in the league this year, have been the Cincinnati Bengals and the Arizona Cardinals. Both teams have been playing exceptionally well on both sides of the football. But the Cardinals are currently in a sticky situation.

The original starting quarterback Carson Palmer, has been replaced by Drew Stanton. Stanton has played much better than Palmer in his two games at quarterback. Stanton helped his Cardinals win an important division game two weeks ago against the San Francisco 49ers. Palmer suffered a nerve issue in his shoulder that forced him to the sideline for the last two games.

As for the defending NFL champion Seattle Seahawks (2-1 going into MNF), they don’t look like the dominate team they were last year. Heading into their week five matchup against the Washington Redskins, the Seahawks are 25th in league in passing yards and 19th in opposing passing yards.

Speaking of the Redskins, franchise quarterback Robert Griffin III, suffered a serious ankle injury that requires surgery. Backup quarterback Kirk Cousin is now in control of a Redskins offense that is 4th in passing yards and 12th in rushing yards.

As for the Carolina Panthers (3-2), they had a dose of former wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. who torched the Panthers for two touchdowns two weeks ago. Smith Sr., who signed with the Baltimore Ravens (3-2) in the off-season, had this game marked on his calendar due to the way the Panthers organization treated him in the offseason.
