‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ was a perfect start for April movies. With non-stop action scenes that graced the screen, this movie kept the entire audience entertained. The sequel to ‘Captain America,’ released in 2011, centers around S teve Rogers, played by Chris Evans and his attempt at embracing his role as ‘Captain America’ in the modern world after the disaster that struck New York City in the 2012 ‘Avengers’ film. Rogers faces many new foes — updating of technologies, the change in pop culture — and most deadly, a Soviet agent by the name of the Winter Soldier and a threat based in the group he once trusted, S.H.I.E.L.D.
Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., played by Samuel L. Jackson, entrusts Rogers with a special USB that has secret information on the compromised S.H.I.E.L.D. and the group that has been hiding beneath it all along, Hydra. He tells Rogers not to trust anyone but this soon turns against him when he is seen as a traitor against the organization and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are chasing after him. With the help of Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson and his newest partner the Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie, Captain America must find a way to stop Hydra from taking over and compromising the rest of the city. Rogers biggest fight of all will be the one against the Winter Soldier, someone that was once thought to be only a myth, now a haunting discovery from Rogers past life.
This movie is one that will keep viewers on the edge of the seat, waiting for the next action scene to take place or the next discovery to happen. The movie, which lasts for two hours and fifteen minutes has a good pace, not rushing into information leaving the audience lost, or not moving too slow creating boredom. The fight seems were put together well because although the viewer will know CGI was in use, as it is in most action movies, it didn’t look fake or overused and sloppy such as the fight scene in ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ when Neo proceeded to use a stick and kick 360 degrees of agents.
There were no dull moments in this film because everything had a purpose. Small details were especially important in a film like this one because there needs to be acknowledgement of the movies preceding it that played such a vital role for these characters. From the minute Rogers meets Sam, later known as the Falcon, and writes down pop culture references that he missed out on when he was frozen, to Natasha, also known as Black Widow, always bothering Rogers about how he needs to go on dates. There was a mixture of emotions in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ that made it relatable, from anger to sadness to laughter, everything was covered in this film.
This was a movie that took itself seriously but not to serious that it left people confused or uninterested. The perfect balance is key and this movie achieved that. ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider’ is something anyone can watch no matter what genre movie is liked. This film can cater to action, comedy, suspense, drama, and even romance fans. It is hard to achieve this all in one movie, but this one did.
The summer time is known for releasing the best movies, but so far April is setting the bar pretty high with the release of ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider.’ Be sure to stay till the very end of the movie because it wouldn’t be a true Marvel film if there weren’t any clips after the credits. Overall this movie gets 4.5 out of 5 owls for its impeccable action scenes, good story line and continuity from the adjoining films.
