The Owls softball team finished their regular season up this past weekend, ending with a record of 29-19.
To finish the season, the girls took three out of their five games.
The Owls won two games against Pace University and lost two out of three against American International College.
Kelsey Cockrill took the mound for the Owls in the first game against Pace.
Cockrill struck out eight over seven innings. The win was Cockrill’s thirteenth on the year.
The Wols put the runs on the board, getting eight runs on eleven hits.
Downs picked up two RBI’s and Bucko also picked up two RBI’s with a double in the top of the second.
Freshman Jessica Van Alphen got the victory in the second game against Pace.
Van Alphen threw seven innings, striking out five and only giving up three hits.
Alyssa Downs and Nichole Buch picked up and RBI each to win the game 2-1.
Buch and Downs both had a double in the game.
The Owls headed to Springfield, Mass. to take on American International University with two wins under their belt.
Cockrill got the loss in the first game of the three game set against the Yellow Jackets.
The Owls out-hit the Yellow Jackets in the game 6-4 but were unable to get enough runs across to win the game.
The Owls led for the first three innings 2-0 after an error committed in the outfield by the Yellow Jackets and a double by Kaley Marden.
AIC would come back in the fourth inning with three runs and not look back. The Owls would fall 4-3.
The Owls won big in the second game on Saturday beating the Yellow Jackets 12-2.
Downs got the Owls started with a two-run home run in the first. Downs also picked up two more RBI’s with another two-run homerun in the fifth. Downs would later pick up her sixth RBI of the game in the sixth inning with a double up the middle, scoring two.
Hoffman and Brittany Bucko contributed with two RBI’s each.
Van Alphen picked up her eighth win of the year, throwing six innings, striking out four and giving up two runs.
The Owls would falter in their last game of the season, losing by a score of 2-1.
The only run the Owls were able to scratch aross came in the seventh inning off a single by Stacy Pouliot.
“We just have to improve in the tournament,” Downs said.
The Owls look to improve on their playing, as they make their way into the NE-10 Tournament coming up.”
