Southern students anticipate the spring semester for many different reasons, some for graduation, some for spring break vacations and others for the events offered on campus. One of the most anticipated events in the spring is the F.A.C.E. model fashion show.
F.A.C.E. started roughly four years ago in order to give students the chance to show off their modeling abilities and the chance for designers to exhibit their work. The spring 2013 show is no different.
Students audition every fall semester to be apart of the F.A.C.E. annual fashion shows. According to the university website, the modeling group has put together shows featuring the latest fashion in couture, casual and urban wear.
During the audition process, “we go over basic walk techniques, demonstrate them, have you practice in groups and while this is all happening we tell you what you need to work so you know what to expect,” said Stephanie Silva, senior social work major. “After going over that you audition one at a time in front of a group of judges, just a basic cat walk.”
Besides teaching models how to do a runway walk, and along with displaying fashion from local designers and make-up from local artists, F.A.C.E. modeling group is known to intertwine fashion with an eccentric theme.
The group has had themes related to different types of concepts including astrology and zodiacs, which was the spring 2012 theme according to the university website.
The spring 2013 theme remains a mystery to the student body.
“The theme is a secret,” said Silva, “but I can tell you that it will be great and people should really come out and support the show.”
Silva, who has been a part of the group for four years and is now the coordinator, said besides coming up with a great theme, there is much more that goes into putting together a fashion show.
“This is my first time coordinating it but I can already tell it’s a lot of work,” she said. “You have to get designers to come, a host, music, organize the layout of the show, have a theme, have scenes that correspond with the theme of the show. I know it is going to be a lot of work but I can handle it and I have a great staff behind me helping out.”
With the time and hard work that is put into an annual show, a fall fashion show has been an idea Silva said.
“There can be,” she said, “however with designers and other shows in fall, I like our show in the spring and this way we have a lot of time to make an amazing show.”
