Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and cookie dough ice cream filled the room as students indulged in a deliciously sweet treat.

The Programs Council hosted a free Sundae Social on April 15 in the Adanti Student Center. Healthcare studies major Samia Jimenez, a freshman, is a programmer for ProCon and helped to host the event.

“I always see people come out of Conn Hall with ice cream and it isn’t fair to commuters because they don’t have meal swipes,” Jimenez said. “We decided to bring this free event to the student center so everyone could enjoy.”

Students had many choices of ice cream, but Jimenez said she wanted to make sure there was an option that everyone could eat. ProCon provided acai for those who would prefer a vegan alternative.

“I think a lot of people appreciated the vegan option,” Jimenez said. “If we didn’t have that, a lot of people would have been turned down and wouldn’t be able to eat anything.”

Jimenez said about 50 students attended the event and she was happy to see so many people having a good time.

“When I walk around campus, people recognize me because of ProCon,” Jimenez said. “I always get asked when our next event will be hosted and it’s a really good helping out.”

Early childhood education major Emma Bruni, a junior, said she attended the event to take a break and get her mind off of coursework.

“This event is helping me to take a step away from the work and have a chance to catch my breath while enjoying free food,” Bruni said.

Exploratory major Brittany Roblero, a freshman, said she also came to the event for the free treats.

“I haven’t had ice cream in a while and wanted to take a break from my studies,” Roblero said.

Roblero filled her cup to the top with strawberry and chocolate ice cream, topped off with whipped cream, cherries and rainbow sprinkles.

“This is giving everyone a place to relax and take a break from school,” Roblero said. “It gives people a chance to meet other people who wouldn’t be in their classes.”

ProCon members put on relaxing lofi beats to bring students to a sense of calmness as they enjoyed their treats. The event was hosted so students could feel appreciated.

One student who felt valued as a student at the event was healthcare studies major Khabryra Alston Kennie, a sophomore. She said she is glad ProCon hosted the event.

“It’s always nice to feel like your school appreciates you and with this free ice cream social event, it makes us feel appreciated as a student body,” Alston Kennie said.

Having an outlet for a free snack was very important to Alston Kennie. She said she was glad to enjoy some ice cream with her friends.

“It makes me feel really good going to school here because we aren’t just putting effort in, we are getting something back in return,” Alston Kennie said. “This is a great way to connect with others and I’ve met some of my closest friends at these kinds of events.”
