“Jungle Book” was released April 15 and has been roaring with plenty of solid reviews from critics. With another successful movie created by Disney, many students of SCSU enjoyed it.
“Jungle Book,” is about a boy named Mowgli who was raised by wolves, and must now escape the tiger, Shere Khan. He is essentially in a fight with Mowgli. Mowgli is guided by a powerful panther and a free-spirited bear, voiced by Bill Murray, in an attempt to defeat Shere Khan. Mowgli is introduced to a group of jungle animals, such as a python and an ape. Valuable lessons are taught to Mowgli along his classic journey of self-discovery.
Jasmine Benavides, junior and biology major, said she really liked the movie. She said she did not know how good it was going to be, but it ended up being a lot better than she expected. Though the movie was nearly two hours, Benavides said it entertained her from start to finish.
“It was very enjoyable,” said Benavides. “My favorite part was when it was a chase between Mowgli and King Louie. It was like nonstop action and I loved every second of it.”
Even though Mowgli was raised by wolves, Benavides expected him to go back to the human-pack towards the end of the movie. She said she thought Mowgli wanted to know what it would be like to be a human man, but he just wanted to stay a part of the wolf family. Benavides added the ending was not what she was expecting; but it was still very good.
“I would see it again right now,” said Benavides. “It was really that good.”
Chelsea Callahan, junior and liberal studies major, said she saw the movie and thought Disney did a good job making it. She said there were a lot of entertaining parts in the movie and she liked the plot of the story as well.
The movie and the messages of the movie were very creative,” said Callahan. “Mowgli was a good character and he was my favorite in the film.”
Because Mowgli was never raised by humans, Callahan said she wanted him to leave the wolves that raised him the whole time. Though this was the case, Callahan said she was happy Mowgli did not leave the wolves because they did a good job raising him.
“Mowgli not going back to the humans was a bitter sweet part of the movie,” said Callahan. “I wanted to see him go back, but I can see why he didn’t. It was a good movie regardless.”
Parin Christian, junior and finance major, said “The Jungle Book” was a good remake that Disney did. He said though he was not expecting it to be good, it exceeded all of his anticipations and it was the best movie that he has seen all year so far.
“This movie was one of the best that I have seen in a while,” said Christian. “I did not think it was going to be good; I was shocked of how good it was though.”
