New York Yankee Mariano Rivera visits Southern

The crowd rose to their feet as former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre stood and tapped his right arm. It was a sight Yankee fans had gotten use to in the 11 years he led the “Bronx Bombers”.

The strands of Metallica “Enter Sandman” began to ring out in the John Lyman Center for the Performing Arts as Mariano Rivera, the all-time leader in saves, came out from behind the curtains.

“When he came out it was pretty awesome,” said Jason Rizk, the director of West Campus residence hall.

Torre and Rivera visited Southern Connecticut State University this past Monday night as a part of the 2015 Mary and Louis Fusco Distinguished Lecture. The tandem led the New York Yankees to a combined five World Series wins, seven American League pennants, and a lifetime of memories for the fans that watched the teams of the late 90s and early 2000s.
