School will be out soon, now what?

Now that the weather’s getting warmer and you’re almost done with finals, it’s time to figure out what the hell you’re going to do with your summer! Even though I’m working 40 hours a week, I’m going to cram as much in as I possibly can because, after all, it’s vacation.

My favorite thing about summer has to be that everyone is so much happier; and not having to go to class at 9 a.m. is pretty sweet too. If you’re stumped for ideas for the upcoming break, here’s a few things I plan to do to give you all some inspiration!

No matter what genre of music you like, there’s always a summer concert you’ll enjoy. For me, summer is the prime time to go to as many shows as possible; it’s a tradition!

This summer will be my third attending country concerts and fifth year attending Warped Tour, not to mention the other shows that pop up here and there. If you have an opportunity to go to a festival like Bamboozle or Bonnaroo, take it immediately.

If you have a really picky music taste and none of these appeal to you, keep on the look out for smaller shows at The Space or random locations around New England.

To this day, one of my favorite concerts was an impromptu acoustic show behind a high school in Braintree, Mass. It sounds sketchy, but trust me it was awesome.

If concerts aren’t your thing and you’re tired of the beach, I definitely suggest you take a trip to Ocean Beach Park in New London, Conn., or Brownstone in Portland, Conn.

Both of these locations put a twist on your traditional beach setting. Ocean Beach Park has a pool, mini golf course, rides, and so much more than just ocean and sand. Brownstone is one of my favorite places to go over the summer; they have zip lines, rock climbing, challenge courses, cliff jumping, kayaking, the list goes on and on.

What’s best about these two places is that you can pay for a single day or season pass so you can go whenever you want!

For all my fellow crafters out there, the summer is one of the best times to do DIY projects because of how beautiful it is outside.

The most popular craft that I’m personally obsessed with is tie-dying. If you get a group together, go in your backyard, fill up buckets with different dyes and go at it!

Another fun idea that I found on Pinterest is to fill empty eggshells with paint and throw them at a canvas to create a cute splatter paint piece. Pinterest is full of ideas like this, so if you’re in a crafty mood, browse the site for an hour or so and you’re guaranteed to find something.

Speaking of Pinterest, they also have a ton of frozen drinks—alcoholic or not—and summer treats you can make yourself if you’re into cooking.

One that sounds super yummy to me is a very simple one to refresh you on a hot day.

Just blend together frozen limeade, Sprite, frozen strawberries and the pulp of two limes and there you have it.

Another frozen treat that everyone loves are popsicles; there are thousands of recipes for all types online, but here’s one I’ve made in the past. All you need is pudding mix, milk, food coloring, Dixie cups, and popsicle sticks. Separate the pudding into different bowls so you can have colorful pops, stick them in the Dixie cups and freeze them; in about two hours, you’ll have your frozen pudding pops!

I want to leave you with a few simple tips to have a fun and relaxing summer. If you’re working full time like me, remember to take time for yourself.

Take a road trip with some friends or just sit outside and read or listen to music. Something as simple as taking a drive or sunbathing can lighten up your mood.

Of course, you can’t forget all the barbecues, family parties or trips to the lake, but whatever you do make sure you try to have the best summer yet. See you in the fall.
