“Some Nights”

We all know and love Fun.’s anthems that are constantly played on the radio day after day, but I’m here to challenge you to the rest of the album. Some Nights is an award-winning album that’s been on the charts countless times—but only for a select few songs. If you dare to accept the challenge and give the other tunes a listen, you won’t be disappointed.

1. “Some Nights (Intro)” – This is a very interesting introduction to the album. After hearing it, I know not many have paid it much mind because it’s unlike anything else on the album. The intro has a medieval or Broadway vibe and if you listen to it, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

2. “Some Nights” – This popular title track has been covered by artists left and right and for a good reason! Some Nights is such a unique song that gives you the feeling to get up and dance or sing along. The drums and chanting make it a feel-good song, too.

3. “We Are Young (feat. Janelle Monáe)” – One of the first songs from the album that really took off is We Are Young. Listeners fell in love with the feel of the song and the message it conveyed. Nate Ruess and Janelle Monáe’s vocals are also a stunning part of this tune.

4. “Carry On” – Something about this song makes it my favorite on the album and one of my all-time favorites. The lyrics and instruments working together create an extremely catchy song. I’m not sure what took us all so long to become obsessed with it, but I’m glad it’s finally being appreciated.

5. “It Gets Better” – This song is definitely more of a dance track than the rest, but you still get that Fun. vibe. It’s not my absolute favorite on the album because of the auto-tune, but I really enjoy the toe-tapping beat and positive lyrics.

6. “Why Am I The One” – Slowing down the album a bit, Why Am I The One sounds like that typical Pop/Rock ballad—not to say that’s a bad thing. Something I enjoy about Fun.’s songs is their vocals and the fact that they aren’t perfect 100 percent of the time. This gives a real, authentic feel to their songs.

7. “All Alone” – The beat of this song is enough to set it apart from the rest of the album. This is one of my favorites because of the effect the different instruments and vocals give to the overall vibe of the song. I can definitely see this song making my road trip playlist for the summer!

8. “All Alright” – A major component of this song is the voices of fans in the background of the track. The song is very simple, but the fact that it sounds like he’s singing in front of a crowd adds a very cool element. This isn’t my favorite on the album but I definitely appreciate it.

9. “One Foot” – I can see why this song didn’t make it to the radio, but I think it’s a great song. It doesn’t have that mainstream sound that “We Are Young” or “Some Nights” does, but it should really get more attention. It might not be a catchy tune, but it’s a very interesting one.

10. “Stars” – The beginning of the song is a little, faded snippet of Some Nights, which I thought was a nice touch. Like “It Gets Better,” there’s a lot of auto-tune, but at this point in the album you should expect it. Parts of this song make me sway back and forth calmly, but others make me scream the lyrics as loud as I possibly can.

11. “Out On the Town” – I can tell why this lone bonus track made the cut for Some Nights. Like the earlier songs on the album, it sounds like an anthem more than just another song. “Out On the Town” wraps up the album perfectly with the vocal rounds, guitar riffs and old-school vibe perfectly.
