Column: Oklahoma City Thunder’s superstars don’t always play nice together

Bobby Martinez – Sports Writer

Playing together for six long years, both, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are in their prime of their careers and the time to win a title is now.

The past season and a half, both of Oklahoma City Thunder’s superstars have battled injuries, mainly Westbrook. Which has hurt the team’s chance to contend for an NBA Title. If one player is out, then the other is healthy and vice versa has been the story stemming from Westbrook’s knee injury he suffered in the 2013 NBA playoffs against the Houston Rockets.

But one thing has been pretty obvious with the two is, both players put up much better numbers not playing together than they do when playing together. Westbrook, a 6-foot-3 guard who can fill a stat sheet quickly, has been the most consistent of the two stars this season. The stats clearly favor Durant throughout their careers, but it got me to believe that Westbrook is capable of being the main guy on a team of his own.

Durant on the other hand, is pretty much the go-to man for the Thunder, but sometimes Westbrook does take that title away by taking matters into his own hands and not caring about what people say about him. Durant has went on record supporting Westbrook’s decisions in close games, but it’s to the point that, this year is the year the two make a serious run in winning the title.

But not all is their fault for not being able to capture a ring yet. The Thunder are undersized but currently have a very reliable big man in Steven Adams who can help out Serge Ibaka down low. If the Thunder can juice up their bench more with consistent players’ night in and night out, they are my clear favorite in winning the NBA title this year.
