The Multicultural Center and SCSU’s sociology department hosted a student panel discussion on this semester’s common read, “Fear And What Follows,” written by SCSU English Professor, Tim Parrish.

Robin Esposito, sociology professor and co-host of the event, said discussions like this one are meant to offer insight to students on the value of a healthy support system. She also explained the importance of staying positive even after experiencing failure.

“We need to learn to embrace failure. Failing forward is what I call it, “said Esposito. “We cannot succeed at something without trying.”

The panel also shared their own experiences with fears and some solutions they found useful. Some fears that were shared by the panel include fears of public speaking, aquatic animals, and of succeeding/failing.

Parrish will be hosting his own discussion of the novel on November 11 @ 7:35 pm in the Lyman Center.

Full story will appear in next week’s issue of The Southern News. News stands are located in Engleman Hall, Morrill Hall, Pelz Hall and the Adanti Student Center.
