clubs and organizations schedule first meetings

With classes beginning and campus coming alive again, clubs and organizations are revving up for the new year. Here’s what you need to know about clubs and organizations:

Special Interest:
-Fearless Lovers of Word (FLOW), Southern’s poetry club, will be having meetings every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in ASC room 201. FLOW’s first meeting is Sept. 3, 2014.

-The SCSU Service Commission, who is responsible for events such as Day of Service, The Big Event, and Friends of Rudolph, is now accepting new members. For more information contact them by email at scsuserviceteam@gmail.com.

-Habitat for Humanity, comprised of volunteers who build houses in the community and raise money for Habitat International, will be having meeting every other Monday at 1:10 p.m. in ASC room 309. Their first meeting is Sept. 8, 2014.

-Active Minds, an awareness commission for mental health, will be accepting new members. For information on Active Minds, contact President Kayla Mitchell by email at mitchellk15@owls.southernct.edu.

-Residence Hall Association (RHA), a group of SCSU resident student who make decisions regarding residence life, will be holding meetings every Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Farnham Programming Space.

-WSIN Radio, Southern’s on-premises Radio Station, is holding meetings this semester on Mondays at 1 p.m. in ASC room 301. For more information, call (203) 392-6930.

-Programs Council, Southern’s organization for student programming, will be having meetings on Mondays at 1 p.m. in the Student Center Theater. Their first information session is Sept. 8, 2014.

-The Crescent Players Drama Club will be holding auditions for their first production of the year, Godspell, Sept. 2nd and 3rd, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Kendall Drama Lab. The club’s meetings will be on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. this semester.

-The Meditation Club, who explore the concept of mindfulness for the benefits of calmness and clarity, will be meeting on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. in the meditation room (ASC RM 224).

Academics:

-The Southern Future Teachers Organization (SFTO), a club comprised of Education majors, will be holding a New Member Ice Cream Social on Sept. 17, 2014 in AC room 303 from 1-2 p.m.. For more information contact club president, Cyndi Fedorko at cfedorko.sfto@gmail.com.

-Physics Club, comprised of lovers of Physics (though all majors are welcome and no prior knowledge of Physics is necessary), will be holding meeting of Mondays at 1:00 p.m.. For information about the Physics Club, contact club president Peter Litwin at litwinp1@owls.southernct.edu.

-The Biology Club (Psi Chi) will be holding meetings Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30 p.m.. For more information, contact Lenny Finelli at finellil1@owls.southernct.edu.

-The Geography Club, a body of faculty and students who come together with a shared interest in the world about them, will be holding meetings on Mondays at 1 p.m..

-The American Marketing Association, who hold resume tutorial, fun event and host guest speakers are accepting new members. For information on AMA, email rotellaj1@owls.southernct.edu.

-The Mathematics Club will be having their first meeting on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014. The Mathematics Club participate in math competitions and is comprised of lovers of math.

-The Anthropology Club, comprised of intellectuals in pursuit of understanding the world around them, challenge you to join the conversation. They hold meetings Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
